Grimscote Manor Hotel has been providing Christmas day lunch for those elderly locals who would otherwise be alone for several years. We invite any elderly persons who finds themselves alone on Christmas day to come and have a natter with like-minded people, enjoy a 3-course meal with drinks, crackers, a gift, and a lift home too. A general invite is shared locally from Noon to 4 pm.

This year we had our plans. We fully decorated all our amazing trees even when we knew we wouldn’t be able to have guests, but at least it kept our Christmas Spirit alive. We were extremely grateful to have been able to allow the visits with Santa, although not in the usual style more a drive-by with outdoor roasting of marshmallows which went down a treat for all our visitors.

As Christmas got closer it was clear we would not be able to have our lunch guests this year. Of course, we also had a plan B. We were determined not to let Covid spoil Christmas. So wearing full PPE to protect and keep everyone safe we and our trusty band of volunteers were able to deliver Christmas dinner to all those on our list.

We visited 32 elderly residents and provided a full Christmas lunch which consisted of hot tomato and basil soup with a roll, turkey and all the traditional trimmings, Christmas pudding with brandy sauce as well as a nice little bottle of homemade gin and a gift, which were gratefully received by all. We devised a route for two drivers, grouping 5 drops off at a time and then back to re stock to ensure that all food stayed hot and fresh. Each person we visited was met with a smile and a good doorstep Christmas natter. Here at Grimscote, we are determined to do all we can to raise the spirits of our guests and keep everyone smiling.

Grimscote Manor Continue to support our locals and if anyone knows anyone that is struggling with shopping and need us to help then please give us a call, alternatively if you no anyone that would like to join us next Christmas then please let us know.

Although Christmas 2020 at the hotel was different, we are so glad that we were able to spread a little kindness and Christmas cheer during these trying times. We thoroughly look forward to the days when our hotel is once again busy with guests.
